This song is about a relationship where one person thinks there is nothing wrong and the other has been planning the ending for a while. Valentine, the person, represents the end of one relationship and the beginning of another. One person loses one person gains. A painful end for one and a brand new start full of possibility for another. ‘It always amazes me the number of relationships you hear about where one person really has no idea anything is wrong at all, while the other has completely checked out’ Melinda explains, ‘the end for some can be a real surprise. Valentine is that surprise. Painful and unexpected’. The good thing is the song does offer an element of hope in that the circle keeps going. Endings and beginnings are constant in life. We all have our share of both.
